How Women Can Care for Their Eyes

A report released by WHO (World Health Organization) revealed that girls and women makeup around two-third of blind people. As compared to men, women are vulnerable to eye problems. There are various ways of protecting the eyes from developing health problems.

One of the most important things to know is the origin of eye diseases. These could be with regards to family history. In other words, it is crucial to understand whether the eye problem is heredity in a family. This makes you know whether there is a higher chance of experiencing an abnormal condition in your eye or not. It is possible for some steps to be taken in order to ensure its occurrence is prevented.

Consuming the right foods can help in protecting your eyes. You need to start consuming green leafy vegetables like broccoli, peas, lettuce, and spinach. They contain high amount of lutein. This is an antioxidant which ensures the cells are protected against any form of damage. The macula is where lutein is concentrated in. It can be found in the retina and is also responsible for vision. Through lutein, your eye can be protected against any form of sun damage. Studies have also revealed that fish which contain high amount of omega-3 fatty acids can help your eyes.

Antioxidants like Vitamin E and Vitamin C will always help in reducing macular degeneration that is age related. Antioxidants like these help in maintenance of cell membranes. When your body is deficient in Vitamin E, such can lead to dry eye syndrome. This will then bring about abnormal conditions like vision loss and cornea scarring. One of the reasons why women experience eye problems is their lifestyle. It has been discovered that more women wear contact lenses as compared to men. This can even be for aesthetic reasons.

The reason why women prefer use of contact lenses is that they consider eyeglasses as old-fashioned. However, excessive usage of contact lenses can lead to infection in the eyes. For instance, the cornea can be scarred thereby leading to blindness. Thus, with good hygiene and proper lens care, eye problems can be effectively prevented.

Furthermore, it is very important that eye cosmetics are removed properly. This will in turn get rid of makeup as well as dirt at the eyelashes’ base. This is one of the reasons why women suffer from eye infection. When makeup is removed from the eye properly, such can help in preventing any form of infection as well as eye damage.

Wearing protective sunglasses while going outdoors can also help. This is because the eyes can be damaged when being exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. If you are going to be using sunglasses, ensure it has ultraviolent (UV) protection.

Women can gain weight as they start ageing with time. This makes them prone to suffering from an abnormal condition like diabetes. You can experience swollenness around your eye lens due to high blood sugar. This can impair your vision to a great extent. Diabetes can also make you prone to other health problems like diabetes retinopathy, glaucoma, and cataracts.
